Papillon is a Rilo Kiley song appearing on their 1999 self-titled EP. Along with all other songs on the album, it is credited as written by Blake & Jenny. The two of them sing on the track, together and separately.
The song was first recorded by the band on May 2, 1998 at Sandbox Recording Studio, and appeared on a demo tape called Sandbox Sessions 5/2/98. A slightly remixed version appeared on the self-titled Rilo Kiley EP.

The title of the song and the lyrics reference the 1973 film Papillon, starring Steve McQueen, based on the autobiography of Henri "Papillon" Charrière. In the liner notes of The Initial Friend EP, the character of Dega is misspelled as "Daga".
The "Morgan" mentioned in the lyrics possibly refers to Jenny and Blake's friend Morgan Nagler.

Performances[edit | edit source]
The song was performed in the band's early days. It was rehearsed for their acoustic tour in early 2004, but they weren't able to get it to sound as good as they wanted, so it ultimately wasn't performed.
