South by Southwest, abbreviated as SXSW and colloquially referred to as South By, is a conglomeration of film, music and interactive media festivals and conferences held annually in Austin, Texas. It began in 1987 and has continued to grow in both scope and size every year.
Rilo Kiley preformed their first concert outside of California at the The Mercury as part of the after party for the U.S. premiere of Desert Blue, the opening film of the 1999 film festival.
